Overall I think this project has helped me to understand and appreciate the capabilities of AI art generators. Personally though I am not too keen on glitch art, but have certainly come to appreciate the work that goes into producing it. My favorite methods were definitely pixel sorting, text editing, and faking a glitch using photoshop. I enjoyed making the fake glitches because it felt a little more interactive and engaging to make and watch because of the movement it achieves. With the other methods it was a lot of uncontrollable trial and error to produce something that looks semi good. Using photoshop and being able to choose and control the way it looked might not produce the same authenticity of the other glitch methods, but I think it’s a more enjoyable experience.

Most of the pieces I generated were themed around cyberpunk, sci-fi, synthwave concepts. I think the bright neon colors and futuristic themes tie in nicely with the glitch aesthetic. I also liked learning how to use outpainting, but not so much the infinite loop part though. It’s helpful for theory crafting what an expanded background might look like. But in terms of the infinite loops themselves, I didn’t like the idea of using AI generated images to create a stand alone piece rather than something to inspire. I plan on continuing to use AI generators to come up with ideas and make concepts for new pieces. And the methods used for glitching the art may come in useful someday.
